Having moved to Cordova six years ago, from the east, attending school in Anchorage would have felt too much like heading back to D.C.,and Fairbanks just didn't feel the right fit for me. Juneau and UAS offer many of the things I fell in love with about Cordova, and other communities off the road system; and a few more fun things to do in the wintertime.

Actually, despite all the things I checked, I went somewhere else first. I hated that place, though. The location was a factor, since one of the things that had me going crazy at the other place was that I needed wilderness. Also, I got the UA scholars thing (which makes me awesome since I went to a tiny high school such that I had to be the top of my class to get it) so it was also cheaper. Compared to the place I went first, I am paying less for a better product, so I'm definitely happy with the change.

Unfortunately after I permanently moved here, the program I was enrolled in was canceled, and I wasn't told until halfway through my first semester. I had to go from a bachelors to an associates. I like the program I'm in now, though that was a huge disappointment and a lot of turmoil.

I transferred from Seattle Pacific University because I wanted to get out of the city and back to the small town Alaska I love. I like going to a small school and the outdoor opportunites really appealed to me. Of course the low cost is a huge bonus!

I only had a few degrees to choose from because of my time frame of being in Alaska. I wish there were more classes at the college rather than distance, but I understand location and enrollment are the issue.

My husband's job brought us here to Juneau. I started at UAS because I was finally in a town where a campus was available. I need to keep working toward my degree, so I'm taking advantage of this opportunity. Having started classes this semester, I'm finding I really have been enjoying the smaller class sizes. I feel I have better chance of being directly involved in the class discussions. When I took classes at UAF, some of my classes where held in an auditorium. It didn't feel like a conducive learning atmosphere.

I am taking a distance ed. class and I chose to take it at UAS because of the convenience of taking a distance ed. class vs. attending class on campus. I am a non-traditional student, so it was a good opportunity to take a class toward the degree I'm seeking. The UAS Distance Ed. classes I've taken have been great, and the instructors/professors have been top notch. Thank you.

I think the above answer is good enough for this one also. I thought it was going to be better this time because of the TRIO Program that they didn't have when I used to go here before and now I find out the Provost or Chancellor or good ole boys or whom ever has decided to axe the program. What the hell, I find something that helps and they are going to take it away and say the learning center is going to replace what TRIO is doing. I don't think so The learning center didn't help me out before the way the TRIO has assisted me. I;'ve called the Chancellors office to get an appointment or a call back and have gotten neither out what is really going on. I feel this is all underhanded bull. They are not telling the truth about what is really going on. They have skirted the truth about the TRIO program's student's success. This needs to be investigated big time. I'm tired of these guys fooling around with peoples lives and i don't have time for it any more.

I wanted to go back to school and finish my degree after taking some time off. I was unsure where to go, unsure whether I really wanted to go back to school. When I was flying down to Las Vegas for my sister's wedding I was telling the passengers next to me that I was considering going to UAS. The woman seated opposite me heard me and introduced herself. Her name was Beatrice and she worked for UAS in the library. She was very friendly and nice and told me a lot about UAS. Beatrice gave me a UAS keychain and carabiner. I decided then that it was a sign. If I happened to meet this woman who was so open and welcoming on an airplane, quite a chance meeting, then I was sure that the atmosphere and environment I was looking for could be found at UAS.

I've gone to a large school in Washington where I had a couple 100 level classes with over 600 students. It is so nice to be in a university where I know my instructor, am able to talk with them in my class and they know my name! Although being in a large city was exciting, I prefer the one-on-one of the smaller school.

In addition, i chose to go to UAS because of the academic programs offered here at the University. I love the fact that the use of Technology as a learning aide by the faculty and more importantly, here at UAS they do not have programs for BASKET BALL STATISTICS. It is pure academics. Pure and simple
